[Voiceover] Home. What does it mean to you? A crackling fireplace, cozy blankets, the smell of warm
banana bread?
What home issues did you face, or what are you facing right now?
(Insert me speaking of hardships this semester- in the middle of the semester- we are speaking right
now in class of how most college students are having their “home” issues when they are either missing
mom and dad because they just left home or are they finally getting their own place etc.)
I had a different set of home issues this semester- right in the middle of the semester I was fortunate
enough to rent a nice house out and I came home one day randomly to get my work clothes and water
was just pouring from the ceiling. I won’t get into it but it was a disaster. The worst part is the owner of
the house was adamant in saying he wanted someone long term to stay there, so our agreement was I
stayed there until I bought a house of my own after I graduated.
I had just set up an art studio and mini recording studio in preparation and imagine having all of the
things you just spent all of you free time on now you have to leave. I was crushed. It almost broke me,
my niece had been diagnosed with leukemia last year, the reason I still live here is because my mother
had a stroke. I actually had all of my things packed up and I was moving to Colorado, and I got the call.
I stayed and then covid happened. I decided I want to finish my degree.
I reapplied, my house got destroyed, my sister had surgery, my mom had surgery, and then just last
week a very dear family member with thought was doing well passed away. I was crushed. This has been
the best and worst semester I’ve ever had.
But let’s get away from the sad stuff, like three of my very favorite things- The Buffalo Bills and the
delicious food I love to eat while watching them, baseball, and the beautiful landscape of NY...our fresh
water.
